Terms of Service
Last updated: July 5, 2026
1. Who we are
Bemis is operated by Ship Something ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using bemis.ai (the "Service"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
2. What Bemis is (and isn't)
Bemis is a reading companion: AI-generated discussion, analysis, and recommendations about books. Bemis does not reproduce book text and is not a substitute for reading. AI responses can be wrong, incomplete, or oddly opinionated — treat them as conversation, not authority.
3. Your account
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent where you live). You're responsible for activity under your account. Keep your sign-in email secure; we authenticate by magic link.
4. Acceptable use
Don't use the Service to attempt to extract copyrighted book text, harass other readers, spam clubs, reverse-engineer the Service, or break the law. We may suspend accounts that do. In clubs, moderators and we may remove content that violates these terms.
5. Your content
You own what you write. You grant us a limited license to store and display it as needed to run the Service (for example, showing your messages to your club). You can delete your content and account at any time.
6. Subscriptions and billing
Bemis Plus is billed by Stripe monthly or yearly. You can cancel anytime from your account page; access continues to the end of the paid period. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable. Prices may change with at least 30 days' notice.
7. Affiliate links
"Get the book" links may be affiliate links (Bookshop.org, Amazon). We may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
8. Intellectual property
The Service, the Bemis character, and our content are ours. Books discussed on the Service belong to their authors and publishers; Bemis's outputs are original commentary and analysis.
9. Disclaimers and liability
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Termination
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where practicable.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is material we'll notify you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continued use after that means you accept the new terms.
12. Contact
Questions about these terms: use the contact page or email us at the address listed there.
